Rocky Ground 04:25
Go dig a hole and plant a seed Beware, you don’t know what it needs Some face the thorns and other trials Some find the good old earth; it sometimes takes a while I laid my love on rocky ground And then the sun came beating down It nearly dried my little leaves away But I’m still standing here today For rivers change and mountains fall A little faith: a miracle. The earth will break. A tree will rise Out of the cracks and reach up to the skies I laid my love on rocky ground And now my heart is sinking down I’m praying for a taste of rain To feel that rush of life again [CHORUS] I know below that rocky crust The good old earth is there for us I laid my love down on the rocky ground Cause there’s a good love and it’s gotta be found [CHORUS]

"It sure does get cold when the sun goes down Silver moon brings my fire from the earth I need fire for my fingers Whiskey for my mind For my soul only one thing will doLord! Lord! For my soul not but one thing will do Black water in the morning as the sun rises up Lay my dreams to rest in the dewey ground I never can keep up but chase that sun across the sky Weary holds no measure agains't the span of time I can see her face it is burned into my eye Her whisper is the windsong in my ear I need flesh for my fingers Whiskey for my mind For my soul only one thing will do, Lord! Lord! For my soul, the only cure is you."

"When I was younger long ago There were many girls I loved Then you came to me and, lo, I let the others go Then slowly something came to me I was never really free Since the day I uttered me And you were meant to be A thousand days And a thousand nights Three years I’ve waited for your call And in the morning When the church bells chime I wish their ringing was your call Three years I’ve waited for your call Three years I’ve waited for your call Three years I’ve waited for your call Three years I’ve waited for your I’ve been so lonely for so long Now I see that I was wrong To pursue you for so long And you and you alone I see a clearing up ahead Else I’d leave myself for dead In these trials where I’ve tread And, love, you know I’ve bled. Girl, when I met you I was lost And you know I’ve paid the cost Now my chains I’ve all but tossed So take me off your cross Now I shall spread my weary wings, Fly out over everything, Searching for a destiny, For what is meant to be A thousand days And a heartbeat more I’ve wasted waiting for your call And now it’s over I’m moving on But I still long to see you call Three years I’ve waited for your call Three years I’ve waited for your call And when I shout it to the hills You’ll know I’m waiting for you still"

about

Four years of searching, of struggling and of growing built a sound shaped by roots, bluegrass, old-time, folk, and rock that can only be defined as Americana, and can only be called the Stampede. Through hundreds of shows across the Midwest, The Stampede String Band has developed a powerful blend of harmony-driven roots and rock, of tradition and creativity, and of honesty and energy that has struck a chord with thousands of listeners. While they thought they were heading into uncharted territory, at every step they have found fellow pilgrims. From the first album, Moonsville, through the travels it’s lead them on,they have found that the modern world is full of people who have grown weary of manufactured culture, and who have already set out on a quest for a life that’s true, or honest, or simple, or humble.

Over four days at Suspended Audio in Indianapolis with recording engineer Adam Cox, they laid down 14 tracks perfected over two years on the road, 11 originals and three powerful, unique covers. It’s been a lot of sweat and hard work, but it’s been the deepest kind
of pleasure.

Three Years Waiting is a celebration of the journey, and in every note you can feel the anticipation of what lies ahead. That rumbling in your bones is a sure sign that this is gonna be big.
